Thankfulness

So thankful that I get to do something so wonderful every day. It makes me so happy just to assemble the little special details. These are the instruction sheets/business cards that are currently going into Pop Vinyl Studio orders. Cuuuuute! I love putting these together!

How very glad I am for this time of year. For the opportunity to examine the people, things, and experiences that surround me and express my appreciation and gratitude. Sometimes this can be a difficult thing. It's not all bubbles and sunshine, you know. But what is? I suppose the only things that are bubbles and sunshine are, well....bubbles and sunshine! And you know what occurs to me, even bubbles and sunshine are not always perfect and happy. Bubbles can pop in your face and sting your eyes, and sunshine can blister you if you're not careful.

Some of my designs simply celebrate the sunshine. And some make light of the hard work of life.

Everything has the potential for good, even if it also has the potential to sting or burn. I believe it to be true that ALL things work together for good. For my good. For your good. If we will submit ourselves to learning. To appreciating the bad along with the good.

My lesson is to learn to give thanks, truly be in a constant state of thankfulness for everything in my life. This includes the trials and the difficulties. The imperfections. The thorns.

Yes, my life is blessed with beauty. With love. With LIFE. It's abundant. But it's life. Along with the good there is sometimes an equal amount of not-so-good. And I will rejoice in it all. I will give thanks in everything. I will be grateful.

And that is where my heart is with the creation of one of my favorite designs, the Give Thanks wall decal (you can see it in my Etsy mini below). It gets a lot of visibility during this time of year, and is such a great reminder to me to continually be thankful. And I've added a few other new creations to my shop and a couple of redesigns. We should always be striving to improve. I do the same with my art. And wow! I get to do something I love and get paid for it. How cool is that? Amazed, yes! Thankful, even moreso!

Defining Words

Bliss. Strong. Beautiful. Hilarious. Those are just some of the words we might use to describe the wonderful things in our lives, like our marriage and our kids. (Yeah, I left off the ones we try not to say out loud.) So, here are a few new designs inspired by the idea of Defining Words - words that define who we are or how we feel. I can't believe it's been almost 4 months since I last posted to my blog! In this time, my family has added 2 new additions. First is our 4 month old Lab/Retriever mix puppy. She became part of our family the weekend after Christmas. We love her. She is a loving and wonderful dog. We also added a new baby boy in January, who has added so much more joy and love to our already brimming household. We adore him and feel so very blessed. Indeed, we are thankful to God for His incredible blessings on our family. We take seriously the privilege and responsibility that go with having so many children. And in particular I, as mother to my brood, feel the great calling to minister peace and love to my family. It is my blessing and my priority. This is the reason my Etsy shop is currently closed. So, I hope you will understand, and I look forward to seeing you once my shop has reopened.

In the meantime, I would like to share with you a couple of new things that are not exactly additions to my shop, but rather are simply designs that I created for a couple of my own spaces. These simple designs speak of my heart's great love for my family. They celebrate what is unique and beautiful about my own family. This is the reason that I love design. Creating designs that reflect what is beautiful and precious in the homes of my clients is such a thrill. Thank you for allowing me the honor of portraying your personality on the walls of your home.

Seriously....I do! It just amazes me that I get to do something that gives me joy, while it also gives joy to others. I love the fact that I get so many e-mails telling me how much someone is thrilled with and is inspired by the design they received. What an honor for me to have the privilege of ministering in such a simple, yet surprisingly profound way.

So, on with the new designs! There's a jungle animal stack that was actually a proof for a custom a while back. I just tinkered with it to make it perfect. And I just realized the "Where Dreams Come True" design was also a proof for a custom. I LOVE the "Home, where the people who love you live" saying, and have wanted to design something around it for some time. I finally took the time this week. And lastly, who doesn't need a message to "Be strong and courageous" in their life? I know I do.

Stars, Brothers, Dreams and Family

What a fabulous week for designing! It is just so great when the inspiration hits and keeps on coming. The star design was done as a custom for a mom I know. I am tickled with how it turned out. And really, the color scheme is so versatile. The next design I finished was the "All For One and One For All/Brothers till the End" design. It was a simple redesign of a previous custom. Then today, I was inspired to create the "Dream Big" design. How completely perfect for a girl of any age, with it's whimsical flowers, circles, and butterflies! And lastly, the Family Initial design - classic and elegant, yet understated, it is perfect for any family's decor.

Designing and Versatility

One thing that I LOVE about designing vinyl decor is the versatility of each design. Not only are there endless possibilities for uses, but there are almost endless possibilities when it comes to size and layout. I was recently contacted by a friend about my "Love Gives You a Fairytale" design. She loved the decal and wanted it for a large area above her headboard. I mentioned that we could certainly make the design wider, but we would have had to "stretch" the design to get the height she wanted. For the larger space, I really felt a different arrangement of wording would be best. So, I spent a little time reworking it for her, and I do believe the results are just lovely. The finished design ended up being 48 inches wide and 21 inches tall.

So remember, this is your design, your way. That is my job. I want you to be ecstatic when you get what you want from my Etsy store. I want it to be "music to your eyes."

I for one am glad for a little bit of extra R&R time. Things have been crazy busy with my shop, for which I am very thankful. And things are certainly always hectic around the house. But, I have a few minutes to highlight a few recent designs that I haven't blogged about. I have had so many requests for wedding and newlywed items, and these all really fit the bill. Classy, stylish and simply brimming with personality, every couple will find these designs a perfect touch for their wedding reception or new home.

Once in a While... Love Gives You a Fairytale

I may have just created an absolute favorite design. I was so inspired to create this. I've seen the saying here and there, and I wanted to do something wonderful with it. I had hoped the final design would have a classic fairytale feel to it, and yet not necessarily seem childish. I think I succeeded.

It makes my heart sing to consider the truth in this statement. An ordinary life turned fairytale by love - a wedding, the birth of a child, the blessing of a good friend - all these have the wonderful effect of crystallizing life into something beautiful.

Drawing Winner!

A big congratulations to Lamar, the winner of the Homeschool design promotion! This was my very 1st, and I just feel so excited to be able to give one of these designs away to such a wonderful woman. So Lamar, look over these designs and choose the one you would like to have. Thanks to everyone who participated. I want everyone to know that I went the high-tech approach to ensure a fair drawing - I wrote all of your names on same-sized slips of paper, folded them each exactly in half, put them all in an empty tissue box, and let my 4 yo draw one out. Since he can't read, I didn't feel he could cheat! LOL!

More Homeschool Designs

Wow! I am just so thankful for the choice to homeschool all 7 of our children. I love that we get to be together throughout the day. I love that when something really piques their interest, we have free reign to learn all the gory details, LOL! I love that when a learning opportunity presents itself, we can grab it and run. It is AWESOME!!!! Just today my kids have decided to make great use of the raging winds outside, and are making kites. Not only are they designing what they think will make the most suitable and flightworthy objects, but they are learning valuable lessons about wind currents, velocity and so much more. I think the Wright Brothers would be proud.

Yes, we are a homeschooling family. I'm not going to lie - while it is wonderful, it also has it's share of difficulties. But then, so does just about anything worthwhile. For all the stresses, homeschooling is immensely rewarding and wonderful. So, this months blog post is celebrating homeschoolers everywhere. I hope these designs make you feel honored for the hard work that you do. I hope they uplift and encourage on those dark dreary days. Let's face it - spring break and summer vacation can also mean work and more work. But being entrusted with educating our children is a privilege that we bear with honor and gratitude ...well ...on MOST days, anyway. LOL!

Sad times call for creativity as distraction

Well, it's been a tumultuous month, to say the least. When we got the news on December 28th that we were expecting our 8th baby, our family was overjoyed. A few weeks ago, I started having some concerns about the pregnancy. Call it mother's intuition - something didn't seem right to me. Yesterday, an ultrasound confirmed the presence of a congenital anomaly, and that our baby's heart was no longer beating. It probably stopped between the 9th and 10th week. I am preparing myself for a miscarriage, and my husband, children, and I grieve this loss deeply. However, even in this, we will praise and trust in God.

Today, my desire was to consider how very blessed I am. So, I designed some things to inspire peace, and to celebrate and spread love to those around me.

Well, it's a new year, and I'm finally getting some new designs finished. We've been hard hit by illness this month, which is why I have been MIA.

I love what I do

I think about this every single day! I LOVE designing. Creating. And I think even more than that, a part of me has always gotten great pleasure from providing something that helps others to feel inspiration, peace, or greater joy in their surroundings.

This week has been CRAZY BUSY full of orders. But, I was still able to manage a few new designs, as well as a redesign of the teapot birdhouse (a few things needed tweaking.)

And now for my most exciting news bits! First, I have MORE NEW COLORS! So, be sure to check them out. But here's the big news - I am going to be offering some fabulous giveaways after Christmas! These are going to be worth waiting for. And let's face it, after all the stress, shopping, parties, and the wrapping is all torn open and thrown away, don't many of us wish the magic could just keep going? Well, this is my way of extending the giving spirit of Christmas. So, be watching!!!

Monograms and Names

Some of my favorite designs are simple but fun designs with monograms and names. I think it makes a person feel good to see a design on their wall that says, "This space is mine, and this design reflects my personality."

So, I work really hard to have a variety of designs to suit every kind of personality and age.

Sadly, I am very much lacking in the boy design department, and that is the next thing I plan to tackle, when I have a few spare minutes, and I'm all caught up on orders. So, next October....be prepared!!!! LOL! Well, hopefully I will catch up before another season change.

Here are the designs I played with over the weekend. A few were designed for custom orders. The Monograms - well, aren't monograms just FABULOUS anyway??? I LOVE THEM! I plan to offer the dark one as a large 20" circle, as well as in small sizes to adorn candles and favors for weddings. I love it's classic simplicity and elegance! It was exactly the look I was going for.

My vision of a compass rose, constellations, and the wheel of a ship materialized in this 10 inch x 23 inch "Explore Dream Discover" design. I'm incredibly happy with how this turned out! I think it's a perfect design to inspire adventure and wonder in children of all ages.

Even birdies like a teaparty

Just loving the teakettles and birdies lately, so I thought why not combine the 2 into a single design. I think these cute little teapots would be a perfect touch in a whimsical kitchen or tea nook! How fun!

I can simply hardly wait to get another idea that I've been working on all finished and posted. It's a custom for a Pin mama friend, Shannon, for her playroom. My idea is just fabulous! Here's hoping it turns out that way!

A Bit of Whimsy

I created 2 new designs today. Well, three if you count the one that didn't make the cut. Hehe! I think we could all use a little more faith, hope and love, so I framed those words to live by and made them into art.

I am just really excited about the second design! I don't get whimsical very often, but I had this brilliant flash of inspiration while I was in town today! A picture of a fancy tea kettle strung onto a tree as an unexpected birdhouse. I came home and immediately got to work. I love the finished product! I don't have anything more to post than the digital image, but you get the idea.

3 Birds and Cooking!

Busy busy day for me, design wise. Several months ago I found some frame images, and wanted to incorporate them into some designs. I had several things tucked into my brain, and since my Open House stress was finally over as of last night, today was a great day to relax in my PJs and put my thoughts into some designs. All the designs are now listed in my Etsy shop, but I'm picturing my favorite design here. "Be the change you wish to see in the world - Ghandi."

Serenity

This design was a custom request by my Granola Girlfriend, Taycia. Her personality seems to me very eclectic - I was fairly sure she would love the various fonts. (If you'd like to see the image a bit closer, you can click on the photo.)

For myself, I had never before read the entire prayer. I knew nothing more than the first verse. So, it was quite inspirational and humbling to read it in it's entirety.

Designing this was almost effortless. It really was as if everything was already in place; each line seemed to place itself perfectly beneath my hand, and each choice for font seemed obvious.

When I sat back to look at it, it just seemed right. I was so pleased with the end result. I felt that certain words were mildly emphasized....and to me, the meaning of the prayer seemed to deepen. I had to do little more than align a few punctuation marks, and nudge a couple of lines of text...but all in all, this design basically created itself!

And truly, what a perfect sentiment. I know I need to see this in my daily life. I need this reminder. To accept. To surrender. The God of the universe IS infinitely good, and I can trust Him, and be assured of happiness.

Kiss and Tell

I must be feeling romantically inspired lately, lol. 3 of my most recent designs have had a definite love lean. Well, here's the skinny on this design. I actually saw a set of tea cups on Etsy that inspired me. Now that is one sweet set of drink holders! I immediately thought of cutting a wall design. So I did!

I went with a slightly retro font, with a scripty ampersand, for a somewhat formal and flirty look. I think the effect is tastefully romantic.

Of course, this design could really go anywhere, but is especially suited to the bedroom. Decals cut in smaller sizes could adorn pencil jars, or framed glass. Valentine's Day is just around the corner!

So it's come to this. I enjoy designing wall decals so much that I need some sort of conversational outlet for myself. I think my friends and family will all be grateful if I give their ears a rest, and unload my gushing on the world wide web.

This blog is my attempt to do just that.

Because, you know, not everyone wants to sit in front of my computer when they come over, and see all my new and great creations. (Well, to be honest, they *should* want to.....but, I digress.) In any case, I worried that I was bordering on overkill when I sent a friend a link to my Etsy and grilled her about how all my listings and pictures looked. Did I mention I did the same thing when she came by my house, and I thrust my catalog at her?

So, just so you know what is expected of you, I am looking for validation and praise. Plain and simple. And you can also comment on my fabulous sense of humor and my unconfirmed, yet unquestionable good looks and fashion sense, if you'd like.

Well, really, if you will just occasionally pop on here and read about my newest designs and the inspirations behind them, or commiserate with me when I feel stumped to come up with something totally new and unique, or celebrate with me when I discover I am on someone's Kaboodle list (Oh YES! I found I was listed on someone's Kaboodle, today!) , then this will bring happiness to the earth, and restore order to the cosmos.

What? The cosmos are already in order? Well hot dang! Let's light a candle and celebrate with Starbucks!!!!!
